PV Sindhu reaches Syed Modi international final after defeating Unnati Hooda

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu delivered an outstanding performance to reach the women’s singles final of the Syed Modi International Super 300 tournament. The top seed defeated fellow Indian and rising star Unnati Hooda in straight sets, 21-12, 21-9, in just 36 minutes. Sindhu’s dominance was evident as she capitalized on Hooda’s mistakes while maintaining impeccable control throughout the match.

After her victory, Sindhu remarked: “I’m happy with today’s performance. I kept the lead from the start. I only tried a few shots and overall I was confident with my style of play. I think Unnati did her best, but I didn’t give her a chance to overtake me. She is an aspiring player and I wish her all the best. I have to go back and prepare for tomorrow because it won’t be easy. I have to do my best right from the start.”

Sindhu’s semi-final win underlines her experience and precision. In the opening game, she took control early with well-placed cross-court shots and took advantage of Hooda’s effort to maintain length on her returns. At the first break, Sindhu was leading 11-8 and further increased the gap with her consistent play. The second game was even more one-sided as Sindhu quickly took an 11-4 lead and sealed the game with a confident finish.

Meanwhile, Indian mixed doubles pair Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila also secured their place in the final. They defeated China’s Zhi Hong Zhou and Jia Yi Yang in consecutive games 21-16, 21-15. The Indian duo now waits for the winner of the other semi-final to determine their championship opponent.

Reflecting on her journey and recent improvements, Sindhu explained: “I am definitely happy with my path. In any case, there is a lot of room for improvement. It’s not just that we don’t have to train when we’re done training or at the top. Every day is a new process, and that’s what I do.”

A former world champion, Sindhu will face either Thailand’s Lalinrat Chaiwan or China’s Wu Luo Yu in the final and is aiming for her third Syed Modi International title. With her current form, Sindhu has rekindled the hope of more memorable victories among her fans.
