Shimla court rejects plea seeking stay on order to demolish unauthorized floors of Sanjauli Mosque

The District Court in Shimla today rejected a plea by the All Himachal Muslim Organization to stay the order to demolish the top three floors of the Sanjauli Mosque. The mosque in Sanjauli town of Shimla has been at the center of controversy due to its unauthorized construction.

According to Additional District and Sessions Judge Praveen Garg, the order passed by the Municipal Commissioner’s Court remains in force. This means that the demolition work will proceed as planned.

However, Muhammad Latif, president of the Sanjauli Mosque Committee, has appealed to the commissioner’s court to postpone the demolition work due to labor shortage. Most workers have returned to their hometowns and demolition work is also dependent on weather conditions in the winter months.
