Just get in for a moment or change straight away? We give new cars a quick check – especially current electric models. This time: the Cupra Tavascan VZ 4Drive

Get in

Cupra, the upbeat automobile brand from Spain, is bringing the Tavascan, a fully electric, spacious SUV onto the market. Everything should seem rebellious, non-conformist and exciting. This works: As soon as the door closes, you feel cool.

Amazement

The design particularly impressed a young audience. Illuminated logo, tapered front, copper-colored accents – this SUV coupe stands out. Inside, a gray strut, designed like a reptile’s back, separates the driver from the passenger.

Drive

The suspension is more sporty than comfortable, the steering is direct, and the seats offer good lateral support. The 250 kW (340 hp) of the front and rear engines bring the 2.3 ton but very agile vehicle to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Loaded

The Tavascan uses the electrical modular system of the parent company VW. The 77 kWh battery is supposed to cover 521 electric kilometers, more realistically 380. Charged with up to 135 kW, the range climbs from ten to 80 percent in 28 minutes.

Conclusion

This car is a true cosmopolitan: Cupra, like its sister brand Seat, belongs to Volkswagen, and the Tavascan is built in China. They can’t do magic there either: the sports version VZ – for “veloz”, Spanish for “fast” – costs 60,780 euros.
