Bern will host the Cheese World Championships next year. “The event is of great importance for all of Swiss agriculture,” said Mayor Alec von Graffenried at the press conference in Wankdorf Bern. For the region, with its many classic and innovative cheese producers, this is an opportunity to present this great diversity.

The World Cheese Awards will take place next year from November 13th to 15th, 2025 in the new festival hall in Wankdorf. According to the organizers, visitors will get an insight into how the cheese is judged during the world championship. In addition, a variety of stands presented the variety and quality of cheese.

Lorenz Hirt, President of Switzerland Cheese Marketing, says: “It is high time that the World Cheese Championship finally comes to the cheese country of Switzerland.” The aim of the event is to make Swiss cheese even better known. The aim is to bring the population into the new festival hall.

The event is intended to attract guests from home and abroad

According to Manuela Angst, the event also has potential for tourism. The head of Bern Welcome says: “As part of the World Cheese Awards, the Bern region is moving into the international spotlight with its unique cheese specialties.” The event offers a platform for networking and exchange within the global cheese industry.

The organizers are expecting 400 to 500 international guests to attend the World Cheese Awards. Visitors come from all over Switzerland.

There will also be a Swiss Fine Food Market

At the same time as the World Cheese Award, it will take place in the festival hall of the Swiss Fine Food Market. There, visitors can try Swiss products such as wine or meat. Panel discussions and specialist lectures are also offered.

The last World Cheese Awards took place in Viseu, Portugal in November. A jury of 240 experts evaluated 4,786 different cheeses from 47 countries. The 2024 world champion was the Portuguese Queijo de Ovelha Amanteigado. Among the best 14 cheeses there are a total of 4 cheeses from Switzerland.
